La Research in the Colombian rural sector: a reflection

Abstract

Within the celebration of the 35th Anniversary of Centro de Investigación en Desarrollo Socioeconómico CIDSE at Universidad del Valle, the author was invited to comment on the presentation of Absalón Machado “The rural sector in Colombia,” essentially based on deep reflection on the past, present and future of the rural sector in Colombia and research on the subject. This paper, which initially motivated the writing of this reflection paper, had no other purpose than to appeal to new generations of researchers to take up an issue, as it is called, has been merely residual, obeying relative weight loss of the rural population in the total Colombian population, the rural gross domestic product in total gross domestic product Colombian agricultural exports in total exports, and the absence of a national policy strategically focused on developing the sector in a globalized context.
