Abstract

The wholesale and retail trade is considerably important in many countries, mainly because it concentrates a large part of the labor force. In particular, labor demand in this sector is studied in an emerging way at international scenarios, but it is not studied in Colombia. In contrast, in the industry sector, characterized by the intensive use of labor force, labor demand has been widely studied, in both ways, theoretically and empirically. This study addresses the analysis of labor demand in the Colombian wholesale and retail trade, by using different panel data models. The results show some evidence that there is a dynamic in the market where analogies from results obtained in research for industry and manufacturing can be established.
