Abstract

With the growing importance of the so-called "global value chains", a term referring to the globalization of production, trading has become more significant in intermediate inputs. In order to understand one dimension of this phenomenon, a characterization of imports of intermediate goods in Colombia is proposed. Through the combination of trade statistics and input-output analysis tools, it is possible to identify not only the sectoral origin of inputs, but also its destination in terms of domestic sectors of use. The analysis focuses on the role of the countries of the Pacific Alliance to study the degree of productive complementarity with Colombia. The results indicate that such interrelationships are low.
