Abstract

This article analyzes the consequences of the decision to migrate on the welfare of Honduran families using microdata from household surveys. In particular, we compare the socioeconomic status of households with and without migrants over the last decade. Unlike other studies, we highlight regional patterns and changes over time. The results show that the percentage of households with migrants has increased, we found significant differences in the socioeconomic conditions of families with and without migrants at national and regional level, and found that the decision to migrate has greater impact on families living outside the metropolitan areas.
