Abstract

A follow-up of the concept on regional economy, its evolution, and its classification is used in this article. Firstly, it is the concept of “region” whose definition does not have a unanimous consensus. Secondly, reviews on the diversity and complexity that the concept has are also outlined in this article. Similarly, the regional economy context, as well as the interaction with the concept of space that unfailingly is associated with the regional topic, is taken into consideration.
In summary, it is more important to recognize in each space (City, Region, or Country), the economic, social and political issues than a unanimous consensus on the concept of region, so that decisions aimed to improve living conditions of population could be made.
