Abstract

Strategy and structure are closely related concepts that influence the success of organizations. These issuess are affected by both internal and external factors; within a dynamic environment, full of challenges and opportunities. This article contrasts the different concepts of strategic thinking based on Mintzberg’s
and Porter’s studies, so that their historical development can be evidenced, and the relationships and factors that affect them can be identified as well. It can be concluded that strategic thinking is the result of an evolutionary process, linked to different schools of administration. Thus, this went through a structuralist
approach to a strategy-centered approach that integrates competitiveness and knowledge management.
